IEEE CASS Kenyatta University Membership Drive

On 17th December 2021, the IEEE CASS Kenyatta University chapter had a membership drive event in Parkinn Restaurant, Westlands, Nairobi Kenya. The event attracted 80 in person attendees and 10 online attendees. The event was held between 4pm to 6pm. The event had three guest speakers, Mr. Latiff Cherono, Eng. Paul Mutuku and Kithinji Muriungi. Other Speakers were Dr. Shadrack Mambo, Eng.Martin Nzomo, Mr. Fidel Makatia, HSC and Mr. Allan Koech , HSC.

Mr. Lattif Cherono is the General Manager of Gearbox Europlacer. This is a PCB manufacturing company based in Nairobi Kenya. They own an Surface mount technology line that is the first one in Africa. Mr. Lattif talked about why Kenya should build local capacity for electronics manufacturing. He talked about the whole value chain in the PCB space and available opportunities in Africa. He also stressed about using electronics and technology to solve common problems in the society. In the second part of his presentation, he talked about the internet of things standards in the space and how to design market ready solutions using IoT.

After presentation, Mr. Lattif expressed huge interest in joining IEEE CASS as a member and a professional. He also said that Gearbox Europlacer is willing and ready to partner with CASS Kenyatta University for future events and he said that CASS in Kenya is timely and he will do what he can to support it.
